WORLD'S HIGHEST DINNER PARTY ABANDONED
As a result of the additional earthquakes and avalanches the Everest team have taken the decision to abandon the World’s Highest Dinner Party attempt.
The team sent the following message, which has been posted on to their website:
“In the light of the tragic events unfolding in Kathmandu and on Mount Everest, we have decided to abandon our World's Highest Dinner party attempt and are returning to Base Camp.”
Quantum Immigration sends their best wishes to the team and hopes they have a safe journey back. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the earthquake and avalanche.
TEAM ARE FINE AND RETURN TO BASE CAMP FOLLOWING EVEREST AVALANCHE
As one of the sponsors for the British exhibition to Mt Everest, we have been keeping a close eye on the team’s progress.
On Tuesday 13th April 2015 they commenced the 3 day (700 km) drive across the Tibetan Plateau on to Everest Base Camp. When they reached the base camp they were greeted by ‘a magnificent sight’ which was ‘a sprawling mass of yellow tents on the Tibetan plateau at 5200m in the shadow of Sagarmatha.’
All was going well until the devastating Nepal earthquake which triggered an Everest avalanche. The initial earthquake was 7.8 magnitude followed by a violent 6.7 magnitude aftershock leaving thousands dead.
The Everest avalanche is reported to have killed up to 20 climbers and Sherpas at base camp and the route through the icefall has been destroyed.
Deri Llewellyn-Davies from the team phoned via satellite phone to confirm that everyone in the team is fine as they had left Base Camp when the earthquake hit Nepal. They felt the tremors but thankfully none of their team were hurt.
They are currently at Advanced Base Camp and are making their way back to Base Camp. Follow their progress here: http://everestdinner.com
We hope they remain safe and wish them continued luck on their expedition!
QUANTUM IMMIGRATION ASSISTS MOUNT EVEREST EXPEDITION TEAM
Quantum Immigration are honoured to be proud partners of a British expedition who have set out this month to climb Mt Everest. We successfully assisted all the expedition team in organising their visas for the climb.
The team will be attempting a Guinness World Record for the highest formal black tie dinner party. The menu has been created by Michelin Star Chef Sat Bains who will form part of the expedition team and will be cooking the record breaking meal at the top of Mt Everest. They are hoping to raise awareness and funds for Community Action Nepal (CAN), the charity founded by Doug Scott CBE, the first British climber of Mt Everest.
